When I first heard about the New Moon movie, I thought to myself, "well, here we go again." That is not to say that I didn't like the first film, but that I had my concerns with the overall picture. But in preparation for what I hoped was going to be a great sequel, I took the entire weekend off from work again and got myself ready for New Moon weekend.
A great sequel...I was not prepared for this!
We all saw Twilight and know that it didn't exactly stay hard to the novel and, when you have packs of die- hard fans, staying true to the original content is wholly necessary. But I though to myself, "new director, new direction," and I was ready for what I hoped to be a more complete version of the second part of the Twilight Saga.
Where Catherine Hardwick chose a grey, very Forks-like, color scheme for the Cullens in the Twilight movie, Chris Weitz took New Moon in a new direction indeed. His use of rich reds and golds brought the russet tones of the Wolf Pack to life and brought the fire to Victoria's hair. Sitting in the darkened theater, I could nearly smell the earth and rain, the dew, the ocean.
New Moon was visually stunning in a way that Twilight fell short. And the visual masterpiece was not all he changed. New Moon flowed from one scene to the next so smoothly that the subtle transitions in the novel were not compromised. He even picked up a few little gems that Hardwick missed with the first! (After all, in Twilight, where was the scene in Carlisle's office wherein the Volturi made their picture debut?) And forget about the 1970's superman green screen effect and the edges of visible contact lenses. With a flick of what seemed to be a magic wand, Weitz fixed the little problems and brought an entirely new world to life with a vengeance.
The opposition of violent action-packed scenes and the heartbreaking romance were enough to bind everyone together during the film and leave us all aching for more at the end.
I give Chris Weitz a standing ovation for this masterpiece and by the reactions of the crowds during the film, I doubt anyone who sees it will dare to say otherwise.
Now we just have to wait that long seven months for Eclipse!
Cheers everyone. I hope you all enjoy the film as much as I did.

Hey Everyone!
Well... IT'S HERE!!!! I can't believe we are finally at this moment when it feels like yesterday that I just started working on this page at 28,000 fans and now we are at 4 MILLION STRONG!! When I started, Twilight was just in the works and now we have New Moon debuting and Eclipse on its' way in 7 months! I had the amazing opportunity to see the movie TWICE now and even through I wrote the review after seeing it the first time, not ONE thing has changed my overall review. (( Which is a pretty good thing because I am realllllllllllly picky with movies based on novels...))
WARNING: There are some spoilers involved in the review.... don't say I didn't warn you.
Overall, I felt the movie was VERY well rounded and flowed effortlessly. In "Twilight" there was so much content thrown into such little time that it was just one thing after another and ultimately the fans were lost. With "New Moon", the continuity was very evident and the movie stayed true to the book. As most of you all know, "New Moon" is not everyone's favorite book due to the fact that Edward leaves Bella, and most fans were worried that after the last movie no one would ever stick to the novels. However, there was just enough Edward to satisfy the die hard Team Edward fans, of course LOTS of Jacob for the Team Jacob fans. Chris Weitz, Melissa Rosenberg and the rest of the team stuck to that book like glue. The growth of Jacob and Bella's relationship really shined in this movie and will transition very well into Eclipse. You even get a HINT into Breaking Dawn.... SPECIAL EFFECTS: I was actually quite scared at some parts involving the werewolves. I was expecting creatures the size of regular dogs and got HUGE monsters. PERFECT!!!
I am very happy to report that I don't think I have a single bad thing to say about this movie. It truly was a movie that was made with the fans in mind! This is definitely the type of movie where someone will see it for the first time ( first time into the series) and go back to watch the first one and NOT be lost, as evident with quite a few sequels.
Usually I write a novel for a review, but then again that would be giving away everything. Well that's my review in a nutshell. My other fabulous admin for this site, Heidi will be having her review up soon!
HUGE thanks to Summit Entertainment for all their hard work and the opportunities for Heidi and myself to see the movie early and allowing us to be on the red carpet at The Twilight Saga: New Moon premiere!
If you have seen the movie, leave a review below!!
All the best,
Lauren
