I prefer the narrative in the book better than the movie. Plus, there's a part in the end of the book that ain't in the film, you know, when he shouts ' God's Mercy On You, Swine!' to the Marines coming out of the Bathroom. It's really not that funny, but I damn near pissed myself.

But I do think it's really cool that HST cameo in the flashback to San Francisco
"There I was...Mother of God, There I am! Holy fuck.."

and I also love Toby Maguire as the Hitchhiker. Pretty much what I expected when I read the book.

The book was proper Gonzo. Terry Gilliam did a brilliant job on the film but the book is just the balls really.

loved both film and the book. read the book first by order of my brother. said i would like it and have read it now about 10 times!!! seen the film about half that

I have heard that they are making a film of "The Rum Diary" good book as well but not as good as Fear and Loathing!!!

I just recently saw the film and was amazed and how close it actually came to the novel, that took me aback. The book is still better of course, lol, but the film stands good alone as well....

Well i watched the movie first, and thought that it was sheer genious, the fact that Hunter S Thompson is actually in the film in the flashback in great
but i have to say that i feel that the book is better, they normally are

but watch the movie and then read the book because u can actually hear the voices of the characters when your reading the book, its crazy shit lol

SO true, I read the book first, then saw the movie, then read the book again. Depp and Del Toro were completely embedded in my head the entire second time through, pretty cool though. And I think the book was better, I don't really know many instances where it is the other way around...but the movie was excellent, I think everything about it followed pretty closely.

I liked them both equally... However, I have NEVER seen such a great representation of a book in movie form. It's almost identical, the book is basically the script. I've never seen anything that accurate before. GREAT movie/book.

i love both. The movie is awesome because youget the visual, and the book is awesome because it fills in all the missing blanks. I saw the movie first (i was on mushrooms) and i loved it but at the end i was like, "wtf?" and then i decided to do my final project in english on fear and loathing and had to read the book and now i understand! ♥

the brilliant thing about Gonzo is that no one can say it is entirely truthful, no one can claim it to be fiction. to understand Gonzo (if it can be done), you have to believe in something so much that you dont care if it is real or not. much like religion. Hunter didnt and niether do i or you, but if he did he would not have been so great. god understands, and Hunter is way cooler than god. TTFN
