Sully read this article closely a couple nights ago, and said he thought it was an excellent, in-depth, and important illustration of what many pilots are facing these days. I recommend it to you, if you've got a few minutes to read something that's challenging and not particularly uplifting - but important.

Best,

- Alex

(Alex here, writing on Sully's behalf.) We recently received the books for the first fifteen winners of our contest - and Sully just finished inscribing those fifteen books about twenty minutes ago. They'll be mailed off to the winners on Tuesday morning, just after Columbus Day.

There's still time to get yo...ur name in for the FINAL round - five more winners will be selected early Monday, and we'll try to get those five inscribed books in the mail by Wednesday, if we can. (See below for details.)

Thank you all for participating - congratulations to our fifteen winners - and I hope you're one of the last five!

Best,

- Alex

The winners of the third week of the contest are:

Deb Vander Bogart of Eugene, OR. She feels lucky to have witnessed the "heroics on the Hudson" and she commends Sully's continuing character in the aftermath.

Wendy Tien of Baltimore, MD. She wanted to be a pilot as a little girl, but her "terrible eyesight" di...dn't allow her to pursue that dream - and she's grateful to the airline workers who have kept her travels safe through the years.

Arwen Rosenbaum of West Caldwell, NJ. She dreaded the results when she heard about the plane landing in the river, but was thrilled when she heard that everyone was safe.

D. Lee Beall of Atlanta, GA. He commends Sully and the crew of Flight 1549 (Jeff Skiles, Sheila Dail, Donna Dent, and Doreen Welsh) for being great examples of leadership and teamwork.

And finally, Sherry Overmier of Fresno, CA. She's having the book inscribed to her son, and feels that Sully and his crew are role models.

GET YOUR ENTRIES IN FOR THE FINAL ROUND, GANG! We've got five more inscribed books to give away...

Thanks.

Captain C.B. Sully Sullenberger Folks:

Here are the first five winners of inscribed copies of Highest Duty:

Stephenie Clark, a lieutenant in the New York Police Department, lives in
Wantagh, NY. She says, "I would like to thank Sully and his crew for
adding another great story to our great city." (And we should mention Sully's great teammates at every ...possible juncture: First Officer Jeff Skiles and Flight
Attendants Sheila Dail, Donna Dent and Doreen Welch made this great
outcome possible.)

Jonathan Carley, a Captain for SkyWest Airlines, lives in Boston, Massachusetts. He says, "I think Sully is a true professional and an inspiration to a very soured industry. There need to be more like him out there."

Matt Elston is a student pilot in Conroe, Texas, with plans to become an airline pilot. He has let us know that he's very excited to have won the contest.

Anne Jacques is a teacher at Bald Face Public School in Sydney,
Australia. She reports that the staff and children at the school were
in awe of what happened on the Hudson River in January.

Phelps Sprinkle is an educator in Charlotte, North Carolina. He tells us that on January 15, 2009, his family welcomed a service dog to aid their daughter Rosie, who has Mitochondrial Disease, and requires assistance and care. Because of the events in New York City that day, Phelps says that their family decided to name the service dog "Sully." Sully (the dog) is now working to help Rosie learn to walk.

Congrats to Phelps, Anne, Matt, Jonathan, and Stephenie. Please enter the second round of the contest, if you haven't already - you can find details in the link below. We'll announce the next five winners next Monday or Tuesday...

Best,

- Alex Clemens

Captain C.B. Sully Sullenberger Hello, folks:

It's Alex making a post (not Sully, sorry). We have our first five winners of the Highest Duty contest, picked at random from the more than six thousand entries we received.

The first five winners are a school principal from Charlotte, NC, a SkyWest pilot from Boston, MA, a police lieutenant in the NYPD fr...om Wantagh, NY, a student pilot from Conroe, TX, and a schoolteacher from Sydney, Australia. I’ll post their names shortly, when I have a little more information about each of them.

But, more importantly for YOU, as of this moment, we’re entering into the second week of the contest – Sully is giving away five more autographed and inscribed books. Every one of Sully’s Facebook fans (except those five winners) is eligible to enter the second round of the contest, which will last until sometime next Monday. If you’ve entered before – enter again, by sending a new email. If you haven’t entered before – enter for the first time, by sending an email. (Check the Note called Highest Duty for all the rules and details, which I've also tried to link, below.)

Thanks - and good luck!

Former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar has joined with guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani to form Chickenfoot. (It's rock and roll, people, so don't blow out your speakers.)
