« Il s’agit de trois jeunes photographes russes qui ont entre 20 et 35 ans. L’Europe voit en elles l’espoir d’un souffle nouveau pour la photographie tandis qu’elles découvrent en de puissantes images le désespoir indicible d’un peuple. Leur point commun est d’avoir travaillé de prè...s avec Sergey Maximishin et d’avoir par son intermédiaire côtoyé le musée imaginaire qui hante les gens de Magnum. Certains de leurs regards font comme des clins d’yeux aux icônes de la F.S.A., aux scènes de rue de William Klein, aux traversées d’asile de Raymond Depardon et à quelques autres encore, mais la commune méthode qui singularise ces photographes, c’est le rapport de proximité qu’elles savent établir avec ceux qu’elles rencontrent et photographient. Là où nous parlerions de photographie documentaire pour user d’une distinction à la mode, mais savante, elles ne craignent pas de parler d’art, et à propos des images qu’elles produisent, de photographie sociale comme art. Anya Maysuk, Alexandra Demenkova et Tatiana Plotnikova prolongent l’héritage de Maximishin, la poétique d’un désastre, en rapportant les visages, la misère et la vie d’un monde défiguré". 45th Annual Alicia Patterson Journalism Fellowships Announced
The Alicia Patterson Foundation fellowship program for journalists was established in 1965 in memory of Alicia Patterson, who was editor and publisher of Newsday for nearly twenty-three years before her death in 1963. One-year grants of $40,000 and six-month ...grants of $20,000 are awarded to working print journalists and photographers. Fellows pursue independent projects of significant interest and write/illustrate articles based on their investigations for the APF Reporter, a quarterly magazine of the foundation, available at www.aliciapatterson.org.

The Paris-based photo agency Oeil Public has become the financial crisis' latest victim, after its photographers decided last week to close down the 15-year-old collective.
