Negli spazi sotterranei del rinascimentale Palazzo Donarelli-Ricci, raffinate celle che riportano indietro di secoli, ospitano per un mese, durante quest’inverno romano,... i ritratti di curiosi e poco raccomandabili personaggi lombrosiani made in Belgium.
Non a caso, la mostra si intitola La Nuit des Apaches - gli Apaches erano difatti la gang più famosa e stilosa della Belle Époque e anche a loro si ispira la fenomenale ricerca di Dave Decat.
In mostra per la prima volta in Italia (in corso fino al 12 Dicembre 2009), con una personale composta da dieci lavori inediti (otto della serie Les Bagnards e due della serie Fatalitas), Decat (classe 1971), erede della grande tradizionale fumettistica belga e nel solco di Lautrec, Steinlen, Dix, Grosz, …, interpreta perfettamente il tema del numero in corso di DROME magazine, il #16: ‘fuorilegge - outlaw’, media partner della speciale iniziativa.
I ritratti dei suoi Bagnards, tatuatissimi avanzi di galera metropolitani, fanno il paio con le colorate canaglie della malavita dei bassifondi. Su tutto e tutti regna, incontrastata, la ‘Fatalitas’…
Dopo il popolato opening supportato da Borsalino e dalla vodka 42Below, caratterizzato da un dress code in stile Belle Époque e alla presenza di Decat - 12 Novembre 2009 -, sarà un finissage a chiudere, di certo con non meno suggestioni, la personale dell’artista brussellese. Pronti per un nuovo cocktail?

During these winter days, in the underground rooms of the Renaissance Palazzo Donarelli-Ricci, in Rome, refined cellars that take us back to past centuries are hosting for a month weird and shady made in Belgium Lombrosian subjects.
The exhibition’s title is indeed La Nuit des Apaches - the Apaches were the members of the most famous and stylish gang of the Belle Epoque, and the stunning research conducted by Dave Decat also draws inspiration from such underworld subculture.
For the first time in Italy for a solo show, where ten never-before-exhibited pieces (eight from the serie Les Bagnards and two from the serie Fatalitas) will be presented to the public,will be presented to the public, Dave Decat (b. 1971), successor of the grand Belgian comic-strip tradition and follower in the footsteps of artsists such as Lautrec, Steinlen, Dix, Grosz, …, perfectly interprets the theme of the current issue of DROME magazine #16 - ‘outlaw - fuorilegge’ -, which is also the media partner of this special event.
The portraits of Decat’s Bagnards, tattooed urban jailbirds, go along with the colourful gangsters of the underworld society.
While the undisputed ‘Fatalitas’ rules over everything…
After the successful vernissage sponsored by Borsalino and the 42Below vodka, marked by a Belle Epoque dress code and presented by the illustator himself - on last 12th November 2009 -, a
no-less-stunning finissage will close the solo exhibition of the artist. Ready for a new cocktail?
