RC Bautista December 11, 2009 - The President of the Republic of the Philippines signed Republic Act 9851 which penalizes violations of IHL like war crimes and genocide. This is a landmark legislation which was successfully lobbied by the Philippine Red Cross and part of its contribution to the Global Campaign and more specially t...o the observance of the 60th year of the Geneva Conventions. We thank the ICRC for its technical support and all the staff and volunteers who joined us in our numerous visits to the Philippine Senate and House of Representatives! Mabuhay!

Our world. Your move. TIME Magazine is featuring one of James Nachtwey’s Our World – At War photos in its “Year in Pictures” collection. (Check out page 56 of the 21 December special edition of the magazine, which is currently out on newsstands.)

The Our World – At War exhibit is part of the Our world. Your move. campaign and is traveling t...o over 40 countries worldwide. Here’s what James writes about the image: “This picture was made at a rehabilitation center in Kabul, run by the International Committee of the Red Cross, where prosthetics are made by Afghans, and all the physical therapists who help train their countrymen to walk again are amputees themselves. It’s not only physical rehabilitation but psychological. It’s very uplifting. I think it’s important to focus on the Afghans. The people there are not necessarily involved in the fighting – they are just civilians who have been caught in it.”
