Raise a flag for Tibet during the Beijing Olympics ...

On 8 August the eyes of the world will be on China as the Beijing Olympic Games open. But what about Tibet? Since the demonstrations in March, 216 Tibetan have been killed and thousands remain in detention. There is mounting deep concern about the continuing humanitarian suffering.

To mark the start of the Games, the Tibetan flag will be formally raised outside the Chinese Embassy in London at 1.08pm, to coincide with the Opening Ceremony. We are asking people to wear black as a sign of sadness for those who have lost their lives whilst struggling for the freedom of their countries.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED! ... We are looking for 216 volunteers to represent the 216 Tibetans who have been killed as a result of taking part in demonstrations in Tibet this year. If you would like to volunteer please email 216@tibetsociety.com with your full name and contact details.

If you can't make it to London it would be great to know that Tibetan flags are being raised all over the country ... in your home, displayed in your window, at work, outside local town halls, at sporting events ... join in the action and fly the Tibetan flag during the Olympics to show solidarity with the Tibetan people this summer. Tibetans in Tibet have had their voices brutally silenced in the past few months - we must make sure that the world hears their story during the Olympics. Don't let the world forget what is really going on in Tibet this summer.
