Tibetans and their supporters strongly condemn the executions of Lobsang Gyaltsen, Loyak, Penkyi and an as yet unnamed fourth Tibetan under the supervision of the Lhasa Municipality Intermediate People’s Court for their alleged involvement in last year’s mass protest in the Tibetan capital.

There are strong grounds for suspecting that legal safeguards to ensure a fair trial were ignored. There is no information on whether the Tibetans were given the right to appeal the death sentences to the Supreme People’s Court. Judgements in death penalty cases are routinely not made public and there are no institutional avenues to scrutinise evidence that have led to the death penalty verdicts.
