I never heard about this story, or the film. I happened to have a friend recommend it. I was so moved by this story & everything that took place. My heart truly aches for these dear parents/grandparents!

May little Zack rest forever in peace with his daddy in heaven♥

I just finished composing/sending an email to my MP (who happens to be the Prime Minister of Canada), which I have NEVER done in the past - this film moved me to do so.

I watched Dear Zachary a few hours ago and am still reeling. I am horrified that this took place due to the (lack of) justice system in MY country. Canada must do better - Zachary's murder and what the Bagby family has gone through cannot be in vain.

Kurt Kuenne, you have done an outstanding job of telling this story. I did not know of this case and was put through a gamut of emotions (albeit NOTHING compared to the Bagby family and their friends). This will stay with me for a lifetime.

My heart breaks for Kate and Dave. These are two of the strongest, most loving, most amazingly admirable people I have ever witnessed. I cannot fathom their grief. They are in my thoughts.

As others have already said, I began watching this thinking it was a touching memorial to a friend. The ending tore my heart out. As a Mother, A Grandmother, and a police officer I amn horrified to see what Kate and David Bagby had to go through. How they kept their minds is a miricle. Everywhere you go victims needlessly suffer while their offenders are protected. What is wrong with the judicial system?

I just watched on tv..... I did not know about the story.... I watched what i thought was a lovely tribute of a friend who was fondly missed and a lovely letter to his son zacchary....
Getting a chance to see this person's life and how many people he touched...
Seeing what a ridiculous court system ...
I never would have guessed the ending.... or i guess would have wanted to guess what the ending was......
I feel i know kate and david from this doc.... and my sincere sympathy goes out to you.....
Thank you... Kurt Kuenne..... for sharing your friend.... brother....and exposing a wrong court system....
i do recommend ALL TO SEE THIS FILM...BUT... MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BOX OF TISSUES WITH YOU.....
i do hope your next film...... will have a happy ending.....
always........

What a divine inspiration to start a personal tribute, and chronicle such an important story. This work is so important and moving and would not have been if it was made at a different time. Wow, Kurt Kuenne has mastered film as portraiture of humanity like no one else I've seen.

I'm a fanatical documentary film buff, and this is one of the most affecting movies I've ever seen; an incredible accomplishment. I highly recommend that everyone view this movie and never let it be said that mental illness doesn't affect as many lives as physical illness.

What can anyone say except wow? I was deeply touched, angered and saddened watching this and my heart goes out to Kate and Dave.

wow! I found this movie by chance because my daughter was sick and I had to time to relax and see a movie via netflix. Andrew Bagby was so blessed to have not just his parents in life, but his endless group of friends. His friend, Kurt who did the film created such a moving documentary. I am disgusted at the slopiness of Shirley Turner's case. I was completely shocked at the turn of the murder suicide of of Turner and Andrew's son, Zachary. Zachary's death could have been prevented. I pray for David and Kate Bagby-I am truly sorry for both losses-god bless!
