Frances Chan Also, for the summer program in Japan, are there language classes, or is it all activities with your host family? Thanks in advance!

http://yfuusa.org/countries/japan-20-programs.php. It can vary. Please see the program information. I would also check with the Ask YFU Alumni (link in other post) folks to get a good idea of the day in the life of an exchange student to Japan. - Lisa. Scholarship application deadlines are January 5th.. this is almost the only way to go on a YFU Japan summer program.

Frances Chan Hi! I'm really interested in the Japan Summer Program (for highschoolers), especially since I currently study Japanese as a foreign language. However, my parents are not very convinced that a staying with a host family is a good idea, although I think that's a very important part of cultural exchange. Are there any go...od ways to convince them that staying with a host family isn't so bad?

Tina Meyers I haven't seen anything out here yet, but the student profiles for the International Students are starting to appear on the site. It might even be a good resource for parents who are nervous about letting their kids travel as Americans Overseas to start by hosting an International Student themselves. Tina, AC, GA
